With a heavy heart, Fellowship Ministries, Inc., announces that Daniel A. Cowart, its founder and President, transitioned into glory on December 13, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born on May 17, 1960 to Robert S. Cowart and the late Aline Mae Cowart. Dan is survived by his wife, Lauren Cortelyou Cowart; son, Zack Cowart; father, Robert S. Cowart; sister Jennifer Beach; brothers, Robert S. (Nancy) Cowart, III, Timothy Cowart, Kenneth (Pimnara) Cowart, and Benjamin P. (Shelley) Cowart; along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Dan’s passion was saving souls by taking inspirational country music to radio, military, and NASCAR events. He was an accomplished musician and in 1980 he founded and became President of Fellowship Ministries, Inc. which grew to include other ministries under its umbrella such as Daniel Alan, Audio Outreach International, The Freedom and Family Tour, Last Light Band and Cowboy Church of Mobile.  He was the Managing Partner and one of the founders of TERAJAY Music Group, LLC prior to selling the popular Christian music company a few years ago, Dan is also a founding member of the “Last Light Band” from Mobile, Alabama.

From the bar room to the church house, to festivals and music events across the nation, Dan had a rich heritage of music flavors that is reflected in his many CDs and live video recording projects.

Dan was a seasoned ICM songwriter. He believed that Inspirational Country Music was the greatest gospel carrying music in the world and he is considered a Pioneer of this unique brand of country music. He was nominated by ICM for the Pioneer Award in 2007 and 2008. In 2010, Dan was awarded the Living Legend Pioneer of Inspirational Country Music in Nashville, TN.

Dan said, “As I reflect over my life and consider the faithfulness of God I can but say that he has done exceedingly abundantly above all that I ever ask or thought”.

My life has been marked and scarred by many battle, but the Lord has delivered me out of them all just as he said that he would. I have seen victory after victory and it’s been only by God’s grace and his faithfulness to send his word to heal, deliver, and change me.

In my music ministry, we recorded 10 cd’s, had 3 No. 1 songs and numerous top five songs, received some of the top awards in the Inspirational Country Music Industry. We have seen thousands of people receive Christ in our NASCAR Outreach concerts across America, we have had the wonderful privilege of sowing hundreds of thousands of dollars into the work of sowing the seeds of the Gospel feeding the hungry, providing homes for the homeless, clean water to the thirsty and providing clothes for the naked.

I could go on and on of all that we have seen God do through the years of my life. I could not imagine my life without God’s direction. I have learned that if we always start each day seeking his direction and live a life of obedience to his word, there is no way our mind can imagine all that God will do in our life. My prayer is that we can continue to bring him great glory as we continue to live our life surrendered to His will and purpose.

Dan was a man of great faith. At the same time, Dan celebrated his entrepreneurial spirit. In 1981, Dan founded Aaron Oil Company and in 2014 he founded International Hydrocarbon Services, LLC as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aaron Oil Company. He also founded International Used Oil Research Institute in 1995, which is based in Washington, D.C. Dan was also past president of the National Oil Recycler’s Association and served on its Board of Directors.

Dan’s leadership will be missed, but more than that his friendship, wisdom and relentless sense of humor will leave a hole in all our lives.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Dan’s family and friends in this sad time.
